The Long Way Home

Prince of Darkness, Power of Horsepower

Remembering Ozzy Osbourne (1948–2025) through the cars that roared alongside the riffs

A Farewell Lap

Heavy-metal legend Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025 at age 76 after a long fight with Parkinson’s disease. Tributes poured in from Black Sabbath bandmates, family, and fans worldwide. While My Car Show Radio usually measures life a quarter-mile at a time, today we’re downshifting to celebrate Ozzy’s lifelong fascination with machines on four wheels.

Late License, Quick Cars

Believe it or not, the “Prince of Darkness” didn’t pass his driving test until 2009 — on his 19th attempt, at age 60. Substance-fueled nerves and a chaotic schedule had kept him off the road for decades, yet as soon as he had that license in hand, he began assembling a stable every bit as loud as his music.

The Garage of a Rock God

# Car Why It Fit Ozzy Quick Specs / Story
1 Rolls-Royce Phantom No car whispers “royalty” like a Phantom — perfect for the self-styled Prince of Darkness. Hand-built V12 limo often seen outside the Osbourne home.
2 Ferrari 458 Italia Sleek, black, and wickedly fast — Ozzy’s modern batmobile. He “kissed” another car in L.A. traffic with fewer than 20 miles on the clock, then swore off daily driving.
3 Audi R8 V10 A supercar that still feels like a daily driver — ideal once Oz finally had his license. Matte-grey example photographed outside Beverly Hills studio sessions.
4 Aston Martin Vantage A nod to his British roots — heavy metal meets handmade alloy. Reportedly a deep Chiltern Green V8 kept in the U.K.
5 Bentley Continental GT Grand-touring comfort when Sharon insisted on something “sensible.” Twin-turbo W12, quilted leather, and enough sound insulation to muffle a full-blast playback of “Crazy Train.”
6 Jaguar XJS V12 Classic Brit bruiser he once pegged at 130 mph — then told the story on The Osbournes. One of the first cars he felt truly proud to own.
7 Triumph (first car) Humble beginnings: a tired British saloon bought long before platinum records. “Ran as rough as an early Sabbath demo,” Ozzy joked.

Rock & Roll Intervention: After a relapse in 2013, Sharon reportedly sold most of Ozzy’s cars to keep him from driving under the influence — proof that even legends sometimes need a pit crew looking out for them.

What Ozzy’s Keys Tell Us About the Man

Loud but refined. From the shrieking R8 to the stately Phantom, Ozzy balanced raw horsepower with opulence — mirroring the contrast between his stage antics and soft-spoken off-stage persona.

British heart, global garage. Even with Italian exotics in the mix, his collection always circled back to U.K. marques like Aston and Jaguar.

Speed tempered by caution. That Ferrari fender-bender and a near-fatal 2003 ATV accident convinced Ozzy to enjoy most drives from the passenger seat, leaving the wheel to chauffeurs and family.

Final Thoughts

Ozzy Osbourne’s music will keep rattling speaker grilles for generations. But for those of us who speak fluent octane, his eclectic fleet reminds us that passion, personality, and a little bit of madness belong in the driver’s seat.

Raise a wrench, cue up “Paranoid,” and keep the shiny side up.
