When Ford CEO and lifelong gearhead Jim Farley shows up at Jay Leno's Garage with a flat?bed full of carbon?fiber muscle, you know something big is about to happen. In the newest episode of "Jay Leno's Garage," Farley personally hands over production GTD #12, the first customer?delivered 2025 Mustang GTD. Ford calls it "the greatest Mustang we've ever built," and after one look you will understand why.
A Mustang Built To Beat Europe
- Goal: a sub?7?minute lap of the Nurburgring. Only four street?legal cars have ever done it, and none were American until now.
- Active Drag Reduction System (DRS) and roughly 2,000 lbs of downforce. The tech is so extreme it is not allowed in current IMSA or Le Mans rules.
Heart of a Predator
Key specs:
- Engine: supercharged 5.2?liter "Predator" V?8
- Output: 815 horsepower / 664 lb?ft of torque
- Drivetrain: rear transaxle 8?speed dual?clutch
- 0?60 mph: about 3.2 seconds
- Top speed: north of 190 mph
- Price: starts around USD 325,000 before options
Carbon Everywhere, Race?Car Rigidity
Roof, fenders, hood, trunk lid, driveshaft and aero parts are all carbon fiber. The chassis is stiff enough to rival a full GT3 racer. Massive ceramic Brembo brakes with titanium lug nuts make sure it stops as hard as it goes.
Jay & Jim Talk Shop
- Moving the transmission to the rear for a true 50/50 weight balance.
- A polycarbonate rear window that shows off the in?board suspension and transaxle – an idea Farley pushed for.
- A direct challenge to Porsche, Aston Martin and AMG: "See you at the ’Ring."
Why It Matters to My Car Show Radio Fans
