Illinois Speed Awareness Campaign Issues 5,189 Tickets in One Day

 

Illinois drivers got a wake-up call during this year’s Speed Awareness Day campaign, as law enforcement issued more than 5,000 tickets in just one day. Coordinated by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP), the statewide crackdown involved 170 agencies working with the NHTSA and IDOT to promote safer roads.

  • Arrests Made: 310 total arrests, including DUIs, traffic, and criminal offenses.

Officials stressed that the initiative was about more than tickets—education and visibility remain central to reducing crashes and saving lives. Since its start in 2016, the campaign has grown every year, reinforcing Illinois’ commitment to safer highways.
