2026 Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race

Another September, another Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race. For 2026, it was the 32nd time this event hit the drag strip, and it was my 30th event. Thirtieth! Who knew that this kid who drove from Colorado to Michigan would end up being the same guy who would announce for 29 years and bring you stories every year?

This year, the event was put off a week due to a scheduling conflict with Mid Michigan Motorplex, but that was a mixed blessing because the preceding weekend was full of rain. In exchange, Friday’s test ‘n tune was cloudy and cool, while Saturday’s race was clear and sunny—a gorgeous autumn day.

Around 130 cars and drivers showed up, with about 120 surviving Friday without mechanical failure for Saturday’s race. Throughout the weekend, we had several new cars and drivers in attendance discovering what the event is all about: competing with yourself as you learn how to exploit your tuning skills, hanging out with fellow enthusiasts, and even cracking open the grill and cooking burgers and more. Sure, the cars are the stars, but the good times rise to the top.

As mentioned, I’m the announcer, so I don’t have much opportunity to capture pics down the drag strip, but considering all the cars also look great sitting still, you should be content. Inspired as well? Visit www.psmcdr.com to learn what the event has in store for 2027.
