Chevrolet called the third-generation Corvette the “Perpetual Emotion Machine.” Its dramatic design, drawn from the Mako Shark concept car, was meant to capture attention and trigger excitement. The muscular shape still garners passionate admirers today. Featured on AutoHunter is a frame-on-restored 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible listed for sale by a dealer in Gladstone, Oregon.
When the C3 first debuted in 1968, Road & Track said, “The Corvette remains a comfortable, fast, safe, and reliable automobile. For those who like their cars big, flashy, and full of blinking lights and trap doors, it’s a winner. The connoisseur who values finesse, efficiency, and the latest chassis design will have to look, unfortunately, to Europe.”
This ’69 was frame-on restored in its original LeMans Blue, and features chrome bumpers, hideaway quad headlights, driver-side mirror, white convertible top, antenna, and 15-inch wheels wrapped in Mastercraft tires. One of the changes for 1969 involved merging the two-word “Sting Ray” name and placing a scripted Stingray badge on each front fender (just above the four “gill” slots).
One advertisement for the C3 Corvette said, “Fair warning: Something about this one will get you all unglued. Maybe the slippery shape. Or maybe all that energy under the hood. Or the road-ready combination of independent suspension and disc brakes at all four corners.”
The cockpit, originally upholstered in blue, features black vinyl bucket seats, center console, manual-crank windows, power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and aftermarket JVC sound system with satellite connectivity.
Under the hood is a period-correct 350ci V-8 mated to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission. The listing says that an oil change and safety check were performed recently. The odometer shows 81,874 miles, but the title reads mileage-exempt. The car has power four-wheel disc brakes.
