AutoHunter Spotlight: 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck

Currently listed for sale on AutoHunter is this restored 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck, a hauler that was famous for out-accelerating more traditional performance cars. All were powered by a 360ci V-8 backed by a LoadFlite automatic (that’s what Dodge’s marketing called TorqueFlite for trucks). Features on this example include chrome exhaust stacks, pop-up moonroof, cruise control, aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo, and more. Painted Medium Canyon Red over a red velour bench interior, this special-edition pickup is offered by the selling dealer with receipts and a clear title.

The repainted exterior features Medium Canyon Red paint complemented by gold decals and wood trim with stakes. Other features include chrome vertical exhaust stacks with heat shields, dual chrome side mirrors, pop-up moonroof, tinted windows, and snap-on tonneau cover. A set of 15-inch gold aftermarket wheels is wrapped in new 225/60 Cooper Cobra G/T raised-white-letter tires.

The refurbished cabin is furnished with a bench seat upholstered in red velour. Features include a column-mounted transmission shifter, four-spoke steering wheel with power steering, cruise control, and Realistic AM/FM/cassette stereo.

Instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer, GlowShift 10,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the oil pressure, alternator, coolant temperature, and fuel. The odometer currently shows 88,677 miles, though the title reads mileage-exempt.

The engine is the LA-series 360ci V-8 that was originally rated at 225 horsepower. However, power should be greater than that thanks to a Brawler 650cfm four-barrel carburetor, Cam Motion roller cam (with specs close to stock), and dual-snorkel fresh-air system. Shifting chores are handled by a three-speed LoadFlite automatic transmission. The seller states the engine and transmission are original to this vehicle, and that both have been rebuilt.

The undercarriage features power front disc brakes and a dual exhaust system.

These trucks have been collectible for quite some time, and it’s easy to see why: They bask in 1970s splendor while offering performance that seemed to be missing from most performance cars. The subject of this AutoHunter Spotlight is ready to handle light-duty hauling or hauling hiney, so all that’s missing is the hustler behind the wheel. It’d be a shame for you to miss out, so bid high on this 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck before Friday, May 22, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).
