Trucks from the 1930s were practical, everyday workhorses that served many families and businesses during the recovery from the Great Depression. Today, some surviving examples have been restored — and even transformed — into unique restomod builds. Featured on AutoHunter is such a 1937 Dodge Custom Pickup listed for sale by a dealer in Portland, Oregon.
The body is finished in cream, and exterior features include a waterfall-style grille, vented engine compartment, chrome front bumpers, roof-mounted windshield wiper, running boards, dual side mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, custom taillights, and staggered 15-inch/17-inch American Racing wheels wrapped in Toyo tires. The cargo bed’s floor is lined with wood planks and stainless steel hardware.
When the 1937 Dodge trucks were announced, they were said to have “the most amazing group of advancements in truck history.” One magazine advertisement stated, “Planned… engineered… and actually pre-proved to deal a smashing blow at truck costs in the lowest-price field.” Dodge pickups were touted for their fuel efficiency, load distribution capability, hydraulic braking system, and styling.
The interior of the cab features a tan leather bench seat, three-point safety belts, floor-mounted Lokar shifter, power windows, power steering, tilt steering column, and woodgrain steering wheel. The odometer in the Dolphin gauges shows 1,926 miles, but the truck’s title reads mileage-exempt.
Under the hood is a 360ci V-8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake manifold, chrome valve covers, and headers. A lowered suspension and power four-wheel disc brakes contribute to the truck’s agility and braking capabilities.
