Chevrolet called the SSR “Part pickup, part roadster, pure joy ride.” Some 20 years after its discontinuation, the unique vehicle continues to raise eyebrows, invoke questions, and draw attention anywhere it goes. The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 2006 Chevrolet SSR pickup listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Athens, West Virginia.
“With only 40,024 miles, original paint, and a clean CARFAX showing no accidents or damage reported, this is a very well-preserved example of Chevrolet’s unique retractable-hardtop sport truck,” the listing says.
The SSR (for Super Sport Roadster) was a retro-styled hardtop convertible pickup (talk about a unique combination) that was produced from 2003-06. Its curves, of course, were drawn from the Advance Design era of GM trucks dating back to the 1940s. Here’s a look at the truck in top-down mode:

The truck is painted Ricochet Silver Metallic (code 67U), and exterior features include fog lamps, color-keyed mirrors, running boards, and staggered-diameter (19-inch front, 20-inch rear) chrome wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires. The power-folding steel roof stows behind the cabin in fewer than 30 seconds, and the cargo bed is covered by a locking, hydraulically assisted tonneau cover.
The Ebony leather-upholstered cabin features heated and power-adjustable seats, power windows, power door locks, power steering, cruise control, automatic climate control, chrome center console trim, Bose audio system with in-dash six-disc changer, and SSR-embroidered floor mats.
Under the hood is a 6.0-liter LS2 V-8 (395 horsepower/400 lb-ft of torque) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and limited-slip differential. The seller has provided images of a recent CARFAX report that shows accident- and damage-free history spanning New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, and West Virginia. The most recent service shown on the report includes an oil change and maintenance inspection in 2024 at 38,787 miles. Additional previous mechanical updates include replacement of the shifter cable, shock absorbers, light bulbs, and battery.
The thing about the SSR’s retro-inspired design is that it has enduring appeal even 20 years after the truck was phased out of production. This low-mileage, unmodified, LS2-powered example is the perfect gateway if you’ve ever wanted to get in on the action. The asking price is $36,900.
