Classics never die, but they do get refreshed. Ever since an Omega Speedmaster chronograph was worn on the surface of the moon in 1969, the “Moonwatch” has been steadily updated. After introducing Polo cologne in 1978, Ralph Lauren has tweaked the formula of its signature scent several times. In the automotive world, Jeff Hayes Customs takes classic cars and gives them their own modern twist. With this custom 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, the company has combined the C2 model’s timeless lines with modern power and conveniences. You can bid on it once it crosses the virtual auction block during Barrett-Jackson’s November Digital Select Auction, taking place online Nov. 5-12, 2026.
The second-generation Corvette (1963-67) brought several improvements to America’s Sports Car, including a coupe body style, available big-block power, independent rear suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. For its final year on the market, the Corvette gained new five-slot front fender louvers, reverse lights between the two pairs of taillights, user-friendly interior tweaks, and the addition of three 427ci V-8s to the lineup, which sat under a distinctive new hood, aka the “Stinger.”
The ’67 Corvette you see here was an “original California car” before it received the Jeff Hayes Customs treatment in 2020. That went far beyond fresh black and red paint, and down to the foundation of the car. Hayes and his team replaced the original underpinnings with an Art Morrison chassis. They upgraded the stopping hardware to Wilwood power disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors, and six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, all of which fit behind 18-inch front/20-inch rear Schott wheels wrapped in Toyo red-line rubber.
Under the Haartz black cloth soft top is a vibrant red interior fitted with a mix of cosmetic and functional changes that bring this ‘Vette into the 21st century. The leather low-back bucket seats feature substantial bolstering for high-speed turns. The driver faces a leather-wrapped Billet Specialties steering wheel mounted on a chrome IDIDIT steering column. A polished Lokar automatic shifter is in within easy reach. Lowering the power windows allows even more air into the cabin during top-down driving. Whether the sun is beating down or there’s a chill in the air, the Vintage Air HVAC system can be dialed in to just the right temperature.
Back in 1967, big-blocks with triple carburetors were the way to go for high output. As part of its mechanical overhaul, this ’67 model has received a very modern solution: a fuel-injected LS3 Hot Cam small-block V-8 that pumps out a stout 540 horsepower. A 4L70E four-speed automatic overdrive transmission lets those ponies run to the rear wheels.
Jeff Hayes Customs’ reformulation of the final-year C2 Corvette keeps its classic looks intact while adding modern chassis architecture, more power under the hood, and usable updates inside the cabin.
