Jay Leno Gets Stung by the 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee SRT

The truck market has changed so much in the past 20-plus years. A performance pickup used to have two doors, a short bed, and a powerful engine under the hood — remember the Viper-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10 or the Ford F-150 SVT Lightning with its supercharged 5.4-liter V-8? After those departed, the performance pickup template changed to four doors and a focus on high-speed off-roading, which the F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX do with forced-induction fury. But now Ram is bringing back the road-focused sport truck with a new line of models (which we wrote about here). In this recent “Jay Leno’s Garage” video, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis brings by the most powerful version: the 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee SRT.

You may notice the Rumble Bee SRT has four doors instead of two. While that old-school cab style would save weight, Kuniskis makes it clear that it wouldn’t sell — it’s hard to convince your spouse it’s a practical purchase when it doesn’t have a back seat for carrying children or pets. But instead of just taking a four-door 1500 and lowering it and dropping a big motor under the hood, Kuniskis and his team pushed for the clearance to pair the Quad Cab with a short bed, which reduces the wheelbase by 13 inches and makes for a more agile machine. At the same time, they made the truck six inches wider for better handling and stability.

As the flagship Rumble Bee model, the SRT receives the full aero treatment and a multi-mode air suspension to balance comfort and performance, and tops the less potent models by a significant margin. The entry-level Rumble Bee features a 395-horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi, while the 6.4-liter Hemi-powered 392 variant cranks out 470 horses. With its updated Hellcat 6.2-liter V-8 (which comes equipped with a faster-spinning 2.4-liter supercharger and improved intake flow), the SRT generates a staggering 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, all routed through an eight-speed auto and full-time four-wheel drive. Expect 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, an 11.6-second quarter mile, and a top speed of 170.

Oddly enough, the popularity of high-speed off-road pickups made the absence of dedicated performance-focused street trucks that much more apparent, a space that Kuniskis is happy to fill. Don’t be surprised if you see a swarm of Rumble Bees on the road after they start buzzing into Ram dealerships in late 2026. And don’t be shocked if Leno gets an SRT model because Kuniskis has a tendency of convincing him to buy the newest, ridiculously powerful Mopar machine. As the video below shows, he gave Leno nearly 800 reasons to score his very own Rumble Bee SRT.
