To many people, Saturday is special because it’s the first full day of the weekend. But for gearheads, Saturday is just another day that they drive, buy parts for, and/or think about cars. It’s also the day that new installments of Car Connections come out. Each time, I have the Random Word Generator spit out three words, then find a way to draw a line between them and autos. Exit: There’s such a thing as a dramatic entrance. There’s also a dramatic exit. One of the most dramatic exits I can think of was made by a goon in the 1964 James Bond movie “Goldfinger” after 007 hit the button for his Aston Martin DB5’s ejector seat (one of many gadgets, including a smoke screen, oil slick, and bulletproof glass). Lobby: Hotel. Lobby bar. Jameson Irish Whiskey. Ireland. The Shamrock convertible (which Diego profiled here) — only 10 of which were made in County Monaghan before production shut down. It had plenty of overhang, but not the luck of the Irish.

Discriminate: Choose. Choice. According to Ferris Bueller, his pal Cameron Frye’s dad’s Ferrari 250 California used for a day of hooky in Chicago was “So choice.” In June, Car and Driver reported that the “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” production team featured a real California in the garage close-ups but used three replica builds for other scenes, including the plunge into the woods and this famous jump:
