It’s finally starting to cool off as we get deeper into fall. As a resident of Arizona, all I can say is it’s about time, so grab a fresh cup of coffee/tea/cider/hot chocolate and enjoy this week’s Car Connections! I picked a trio of US Top 40 singles for the week ending October 22, 1966, and found ways to link them to automobiles. Those songs are “96 Tears” by ? and the Mysterians (#2), “Walk Away Renee” by The Left Banke (#6), and “The Hair on My Chinny Chin Chin” by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs (#27). You’ll see how I connected those songs to Chevrolet, Renault, and GMC, but how would you associate them with cars? Tell us in the Comments section below. (And click here for more Car Games!)

“96 Tears”: 1996. The 1996 model year marked the end of several cool GM vehicles: the Buick Roadmaster, Cadillac Fleetwood, and the car above, the Chevrolet Impala SS — a monochromatic bruiser-cruiser with a 260-horsepower LT1 V-8.
“Walk Away Renee”: As a James Bond nerd, I instantly thought of the name Rémy, as in Rémy Julienne, the French stunt driver and coordinator who worked his magic in several 007 movies. One of his most memorable credits was reducing a Renault 11 TXE taxi to two roofless pieces during a chase scene in 1985’s “A View to a Kill.” You can watch the transformation process in the video below.
2006 GMC Sierra Denali
“The Hair on My Chinny Chin Chin”: Shaving. GMC! Why? Because it’s hard to look at the grille of a 2000s Denali model and not think of a foil shaver.
Does today’s round of Car Connections make you want to add a Chevrolet, Renault, or GMC to your garage? Find one on ClassicCars.com.
