One community in northern Utah takes the Independence Day holiday very seriously when it comes to classic cars. The Cache Valley Cruise-In, based in Logan, is an annual multi-day event that has been running since 1982. Each year, it attracts about 1,000 specialty vehicles and over 30,000 spectators.
The keystone event was a “Show-N-Shine” held at the Cache County Fairgrounds, but the scope of the Cruise-In also included a scenic drive up Logan to Bear Lake, sock hop, concert, poker run, swap meet, and parade down historic Main Street.
One of many stand-out cars on display this year was a wild 1951 Ford Custom Coupe. This “Viper Red” hot rod had a chopped top, Buick headlights, 1953 Chevrolet grille, GM 350ci V-8, dual spotlights, Cadillac-sourced power seats, air conditioning, and CD stereo.
Each year during the Saturday evening awards ceremony, a drawing is held for a giveaway car. This year, that prize was a striking Candy Apple Red 1965 Shelby Cobra kit car equipped with a 347ci stroker V-8, five-speed manual transmission, power steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. It was built by Wasatch Customs of Layton, Utah with interior work done by Fox Valley Restoration in Centerville.
The family-friendly Cruise-In was a perfect chance to get out in Logan’s 90-degree sunshine to enjoy the cars and camaraderie. I’m going to add the event to my must-see list for next year.
Below are photos of some of the cars that were on display, including a couple of late-model imports that were fun to see alongside the older domestics.
Many thanks to Tia, my mom, for providing the photos!
1929 Ford Model A
1931 Ford Model A 5-Window Coupe
1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Coupe
1948 Ford F-1
1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley
1966 Chevrolet Nova
1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396
1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
And now for a couple of vastly different rides, starting with a 2024 Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato AWD. This limited-production, 610-horsepower, rally-inspired Lambo was designed to push performance boundaries when the pavement ends.
Finally, a 2024 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS — in Racing Yellow, of course.
Nice variety of vehicles! This year’s Cruise-In looked to be a great time for all.
