My wife’s Uncle Larry is a real character. He’s a car guy, makes a great steak, and introduced me to the TV show “Columbo.” Instead of a “whodunit” mystery, each case is more like a “howcatchem” game of psychology. That’s kind of how Car Connections works. From the title of each installment, you can tell which brand of vehicles will be linked to the three words I get from the Random Word Generator. However, you won’t know what those words are or how I associate them with automobiles until you read the article. This week’s words are rugby, condition, and cooperate. Rugby: Ralph Lauren had a preppy/collegiate brand called Rugby, which lasted from 2004-2013. Not only is he a fashion icon, but he’s also a car aficionado who won Best of Show at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance twice (with the expertise and craftsmanship of Paul Russell and Company).

The first time was with a 1938 Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic (one of three still in existence) in 1990; the second time was in 1993 with a 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK Count Trossi Roadster.

In the first installment, Connie’s brother Michael Corleone (do I even have to tell you who played the role?) fled to Italy after he murdered two of his enemies. While there, Michael married a local girl named Apollonia Vitelli (Simonetta Stefanelli).

Unfortunately, Michael’s family drama followed him to Italy and his bride paid the ultimate price behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport “Freccia d’Oro” (Golden Arrow).

Cooperate: Collaborate. “Alright, stop, collaborate, and listen. Ice is back with my brand-new invention” is a lyric from rapper Vanilla Ice’s 1990 song “Ice Ice Baby.” In the music video, he drives a triple-white Fox-body Ford Mustang convertible with a 5.0 V-8 under the hood. Watch him cruise with the ragtop down (so his hair can blow) in the video below:
