AutoHunter Spotlight: 2005 Ford Mustang GT Custom Coupe

The S197 Ford Mustang, with its retro design that recalled 1960s fastbacks, was a massive success, selling over a million units between 2005 and 2014. Among those pony cars was one in particular that got a little bit of special sauce, courtesy of a tuning company called Steeda. Featured on AutoHunter is that 2005 Ford Mustang GT Custom Coupe, currently listed by a private seller in Unionville, Connecticut.

Steeda is an aftermarket manufacturer that specializes in upgrades for Ford vehicles — most notably, the Mustang. The company was founded in 1988 by Dario Orlando with an emphasis on development of parts for racing applications, but it soon became known for its street-going go-fast goodies. The company’s earliest beginnings go back decades. In fact, Dario’s father worked on the design team at Ford during the 1950s and 1960s, so automotive passion ran in the family. Today, Steeda makes components for many models besides the Mustang, including Bronco, Explorer, and F-Series.

Finished in Mineral Gray Metallic with Black LeMans racing strips, this Steeda-commissioned pony car features a Cervinis fiberglass hood, brake cooling ducts, ARP adjustable front splitter, ARP rear diffuser, Steeda rear wing, smoked taillamps with sequential turn signals, shorty antenna, and 20-inch Steeda ST-R wheels wrapped in staggered Nitto Invo tires.

The cockpit is trimmed in Parchment leather and has been outfitted with goodies like a four-point roll cage, Simpson harnesses, and aftermarket Shelby-branded gauges for oil pressure, boost pressure, and fuel pressure. While the car has clearly been customized with a performance focus (thus the rear-seat delete), it still comes with niceties like push-button start, air conditioning, and Kenwood audio system with Bluetooth and navigation.

Under the hood is a 4.6-liter V-8 with a long list off Steeda performance goodies, like a roots-type supercharger, handheld tuner, high-velocity cold-air intake, Ford Racing 62mm throttle body, Cobra fuel pump, 42-lb injectors, ATI lightweight crank pulley, belt idler pulleys, heavy-duty 90mm belt tensioner, MSD blaster coils, and Mishimoto aluminum radiator. A 5R55S five-speed automatic transmission sends (plentiful!) power to the rear wheels.

The upgrades don’t stop with just the powertrain. Chassis improvements include Ultra-Lite lowering springs, sway bars, G-trac brace, Tokico D-Spec struts, strut-tower braces, billet camber adjusters, adjustable panhard bar, and more. An SSBC power four-wheel big-brake system leverages 14-inch front and 13-inch rear rotors as well as braided stainless-steel brake lines.

The car’s Experian AutoCheck report shows no issues with brands, auction issues, accidents, damage, recalls, or odometer issues. The car was sold to its original owner in July 2005 in Unionville, Connecticut and has remained in the area long-term.

Be sure to check out the walk-around video with the car at idle. The burble of the MagnaFlow X-pipe dual-exhaust system gives a subtle hint of aggression. We can only imagine how it sounds at wide-open throttle. Steeda has indeed built a special steed with this one. And you’re just a few clicks away from taking it for a spirited ride home.

The auction for this 2005 Ford Mustang GT Custom Coupe ends Friday, May 22, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. (PDT).
