The fifth-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class was very much a return to form for the brand, correcting many (if not most) of the complaints owners had about the previous two versions. Still a technological tour de force, Mercedes took great care in replacing the plastic interior pieces found in the earlier two generations with metal and also added more wood and leather. Of these extraordinary cars, the highest-specification were the AMG models, which took everything good about the S-Class and added serious levels of performance. Today’s AutoHunter Spotlight is on this 2008 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. Finished in Calcite White over a Savanna Beige leather interior, this German performance sedan is offered by the selling dealer with a clear title.
In its review of the S-Class, Edmunds stated, “It’s the most advanced car on the planet, with precision engineering, groundbreaking technologies, and an interior fit for foreign dignitaries. For those desiring a large ultraluxury sedan that has everything and can do everything, the S-Class is the benchmark.” The S63 AMG changed the suspension and drivetrain of the S-Class, adding their 6.2-liter DOHC 32-valve, aluminum V-8 under the hood, which gave the car 519 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This allowed the very large 4,900-pound car to cover the 0-60 sprint in a swift 4.5 seconds and complete the quarter-mile run in 13 seconds flat. Not only did if offer the height of luxury, but it also provided the kind of power usually reserved for supercars of the period.
It has covered 173,842 miles from new yet still looks to be in excellent condition.
The exterior body and trim appear to be in good shape, considering the overall quality of the Mercedes S-Class in this period. There are a few door dings on the left side of the car; apart from that, the only imperfections on the exterior are some minor scuffs on the 20-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels, which are wrapped in correct Pirelli tires.
The interior is in good condition overall, with the exception of wear on the steering wheel and the driver’s-side seat bottom, which could use some work. Some of this boils down to the quality of the materials, but this car’s Savanna Beige leather upholstery seems to show very little wear beyond the aforementioned seat bottom, especially considering the number of miles. The same is true with the burl walnut wood-grain trim, which shows no cracking, fading or crazing.
Like all S-Class cars from this era, the options are plentiful and include power memory bucket seats, cruise control, power everything, multi-functional steering wheel with paddle shifters, tilt and telescopic steering column, and a great-sounding factory entertainment system.
Under the hood is the hand-assembled all-aluminum AMG 6.3-liter DOHC V-8, which still has the engine builder’s signature plaque on its intake. Everything under the hood looks to be clean, well cared for, and absolutely stock.
The underside of this S63 also seems to be in good shape, with no signs of any corrosion or rust anywhere. Again, this looks like a car that been pretty well cared for and garaged during its life — not surprising for a car that had a cost of $136,245 in 2008.
Yes, there is some risk in buying a top-tier used European luxury car but, due to depreciation, these cars are often sold for a fraction of their cost when new. If you are interested, the only way to buy this one is by bidding — something you should do soon, as the auction for this 2008 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG ends Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).
