Mini Celebrates 25 Years With Rooftop Edition

It’s been 25 years since BMW began production of the modern Mini Cooper. In celebration of this milestone, Mini has released eight limited-edition vehicles. The fifth of these Mini Icon Drops is the recently announced Mini Rooftop Edition.

Mini USA wanted to do something special for its 25-year anniversary, so it took inspiration from an area that’s become a large part of our culture, especially among younger generations — shoes.

Available on 2- and 4- door Mini Cooper S models, the Rooftop Edition is designed to “take a classic Mini design element and give it a playful new twist.” It will be available in two color schemes: Indigo Sunset Blue Metallic with Melting Silver III roof, mirror caps, and stripes, or the inverse combination.

The interior includes John Cooper Works sport seats and “subtle Mini detailing” while following Mini’s traditional retro-inspired design.

When there is an upcoming limited-edition Addidas or Jordans drop, anticipation builds among enthusiasts, and the new shoes usually sell out quickly. Mini’s desire is to capture a similar anticipation with Mini Icon Drops. The four prior Mini Icon Drops include Mini Cooper S 2-Door 1965 Victory Edition, Mini Cooper S 4-Door Red Line Edition, Mini Paul Smith Editions, and the Mini Cooper Heritage Edition. The three future drops will be announced by the end of 2026.

The Mini Rooftop Edition is slated to begin production in September, with vehicles expected to show up at dealerships the following month. The 2-door will set you back $39,995, with the 4-door requiring another $1,000 before fees for destination and handling.

What do you think?  Perhaps some Mini-inspired kicks while they’re at it?
