If you were a touring musician in the early 1960s, it’s quite possible you would’ve enjoyed being wheeled around in a long, black Cadillac. Our Pick of the Day is something that satisfies this aspiration as it’s long, stylish, comfortable, and reeks of prestige. This 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five sedan is listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a dealership in Statesville, North Carolina.
I’m not certain there is much that I share with country music legend Johnny Cash, but the one thing I can say we have in common is an affinity for long, black Cadillacs. In his 1976 song, “One Piece at a Time,” he begins by singing, “Every day, I’d watch them beauties roll by. And sometimes, I’d hang my head and cry. ‘Cause I always wanted me one that was long and black,” referring to the Cadillacs he saw while working on an assembly line in Detroit. Of course, those of us who are familiar with the song know that his desire results in him sneaking car parts out in a lunch box and building his own car with what he stole.
Stretching over 20 feet long, this Cadillac seems like it would be right up Cash’s alley — maybe he’d buy it for his collection. Aside from “all rare, hard-to-find trim intact” per the seller, the exterior also includes removable rear fender skirts, dual chrome side mirrors, and a wrap-around windshield. Its classic black exterior paint is nicely complemented by a set of whitewall tires with factory wheel covers.
Inside, you’ll notice the interior has been refinished in gray cloth upholstery. With full power options that include the steering, windows, and brakes, this is one Caddy that was built more for comfort than to keep up with the Joneses. It even includes second-row air conditioning and heating!
Powering this Series Seventy-Five is a 390ci V-8 paired with a four-barrel carburetor and four-speed automatic. Aftermarket headers connect to a dual exhaust system with Flowmasters for a classic sound that demands attention, as you can hear/see in the video below.
Only 696 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five sedans were built for the 1962 model year, so you also have rarity in your favor, though it likely makes no difference to your band (or seven of your closest friends). For $49,995, wouldn’t you enjoy being the Man in Black?
