It’s hard to believe that it’s already June. But you’d better believe it’s time for another edition of Car Connections! As usual, I get three words from the Random Word Generator, then find a way to associate them with automobiles. This week’s words are set, chimney, and cemetery. How would you associate these words with cars? Tell us in the Comments section below. (And click here for more car games!)

Set: Tennis. Green. Fuzzy balls. Love. Court. Clay. Sneakers. Nike. DeLorean! Back in 2010, Nike released the limited-edition DeLorean Nike Dunk, which took styling cues from the ’80s automotive icon. As a nod to the car’s stainless steel skin, the upper was matte silver. Horizontal lines on the heel represented the DMC-12’s rear window louvers. The soles were divided into white, red, and orange sections, just like the taillights. There’s even a Belfast stamp on the tongue, a reference to the plant in Northern Ireland that produced DeLoreans.
Prices for the DeLorean Nike Dunk are now in the thousands. If only there was a time machine you could use to go back to when they were affordable…

Chimney: Brick. “Brick” is the name of Ben Folds Five’s breakout song from 1997. BFF started out in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. BMW has a plant in Spartanburg where it builds the X3, X5, X6, X7, and XM. That hierarchy brings this song title from Ben Folds’ solo career to mind:

Cemetery: Pet Cemetery. Steven King. New England. Boston. Boston Celtics. Larry Bird. Boston Garden. Parquet floor. Woodwork brings Rolls-Royce to mind.

According to the automaker, its coachbuilt La Rose Noire Droptail has “the single most complex expression of parquetry ever created by Rolls-Royce. Formed from 1,603 pieces of Black Sycamore veneer, symmetrical triangles are punctuated by asymmetrical red segments, creating an abstract artwork of falling rose petals that cosset the driver and passenger. The grey pieces retain the wood’s natural colour and were crafted from several logs to achieve tonal variation.” The parquetry looks great, but where’s the hoop?
