AutoHunter Spotlight: 1959 Edsel Corsair Convertible

Currently listed for sale on AutoHunter is this restored 1959 Edsel Corsair convertible. For Edsel’s second model year, the list of models was trimmed from four to two, with the Corsair and Ranger remaining. Powering this unusual drop-top is the Edsel Express V-8, a 332ci eight paired with the Mile-O-Matic automatic. Features include a power convertible top, dual side mirrors, factory AM radio, and more. Painted Snow White and Blue Aqua with a blue convertible top and a white and turquoise interior, this rare 1950s ragtop comes from the selling dealer with a clear title.

The Snow White paint is complemented by longitudinal spears of Blue Aqua, matching the canvas convertible top. Other features include fender-top chrome side mirrors, wrap-around windshield, and chrome all around. A set of 14-inch wheels with full wheel covers are wrapped in Coker Classic 215/75 whitewall radials.

The cabin is furnished with white and turquoise vinyl, with a split-back bench seat up front. Other interior features include a clock, factory AM radio, three-spoke steering wheel with manual assist, and column-mounted automatic shifter.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the temperature and fuel level. An aftermarket tachometer lies to the left of the steering column, and a set of aftermarket gauges for the oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage is mounted under the dashboard. The odometer shows 82,923 miles, though the title reads mileage-exempt.

Powering this Edsel is the first of Ford’s “FE” V-8s that eventually won Le Mans. This one measures 332ci and is topped by a two-barrel carburetor. Back in the day, Ford rated this engine at 225 horsepower. It is connected to a two-speed Mile-O-Matic automatic transmission.

The undercarriage features power drum brakes all around and a dual exhaust system.

Long the butt of jokes and ugly car lists, the Edsel has come a long way — in fact, when observed with its contemporaries, the Edsel comes off as quite understated. The smoother second-year styling is a plus, and it’s difficult to argue the color combination on the subject of our AutoHunter Spotlight. In other words, this car looks like it has it all … except you in the driver’s seat. The way to rectify this is to bid on this 1959 Edsel Corsair convertible before Friday, May 15, 2026, at 11:45 a.m. (PDT) because otherwise, you’ll be left out in the cold.
