If the weather in your neck of the woods hasn’t gotten too hot yet, I appreciate you stopping by to read this installment of Car Connections before you head out for a top-down drive or a day at the lake. First time here? Then here’s how it goes: I score three words from the Random Word Generator, then I link them to automobiles in some way. This week’s words are scrap, superintendent, and teach. How would you associate these words with cars? Tell us in the Comments section below.

Scrap: Scrappy-Doo. Scooby-Doo. Dogs. Stellantis. Mopar’s new Mopaw line of travel- and vehicle‑related pet accessories, such as a folding pet kennel, pet carrier, seat and door protectors from 4Knines, and leashes. Wow, that went pretty smoothly. I thought it was going to be ruff!

Superintendent: Super, as in wearing a cape. Capetown. South Africa. That’s where the body of Uwe Gemballa, the founder of the Porsche tuner that bears his last name, was found after he was murdered in 2010. On a lighter note, his company has produced various über-Porsches such as the Mirage GT, a Carrera GT modified to produce 670 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, and hit a top speed north of 208 mph.

Teach: Teacher. Educate. Learn. Class. Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Those are known for depreciating quickly. According to Kelley Blue Book, “A 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has depreciated $43,550 or 36% in the last 2 years and has a current resale value of $74,900 and trade-in value of $70,700.” That sounds like a painful lesson.
