When Meriwether Lewis and William Clark set out to discover the West, they relied on state-of-the-art tools of the time to succeed in their mission. Similarly, Honda hopes to capitalize on the success of its mid-size SUV by adding new state-of-the-art tools and technology to the 2027 Passport TrailSport.

The highlight of the improved 2027 Passport TrailSport is a reengineered suspension, which includes the front driveshafts, springs, dampers, control arms, stabilizer bars, knuckles, and subframe. This new design provides an extra 1.38 inches of additional ground clearance that improves breakover, approach, and departure angles. In fact, at 9.65 inches, the Passport TrailSport features more ground clearance than the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road, Subaru Outback Wilderness, and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch. Altogether, there are 28 suspension and chassis-related parts that have been redesigned, reengineered, or are new.

Since the introduction of the redesigned Passport last year, TrailSport trim has accounted for around 80% of sales. “Our team of passionate engineers is taking our ultimate Honda adventure SUV, the Honda Passport TrailSport, and making it even more capable and confident for 2027,” says Luis Guerra, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales. “By enhancing both the driving experience and off-road capability, Honda Passport offers our customers an SUV for their daily life and next great adventure.”

The Passport TrailSport’s exterior is also more rugged than previous models. Honda’s designers added more pronounced fender flares, resculpted the lower front fascia, and a pair of hood-mounted amber LED lights. Customers will also have the option of choosing the Blackout Package on any TrailSport, which adds new black front and rear fascias, black 18-inch alloy wheels, and black badging.

Now standard are a heated steering wheel and TrailWatch camera system, both of which were previously exclusive to the TrailSport Elite. The camera system offers four views (front, rear, side, and 360-degree) to help drivers safely navigate what they can’t see in their normal line of sight.

The new Honda Passport TrailSport is still powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 offering 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. That power is harnessed to a 10-speed automatic transmission and i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system.

Owners of the 2027 and previous TrailSport models will be able to take part in the recently launched Honda Trail Experience off-road app. Created by Honda U.S. engineers in conjunction with over 1,500 2026 Passport TrailSport owners, this app provides terrain guidance, real-time vehicle data, and advanced video capabilities. Users will even be able to share videos with data overlays with family, friends, and their social media channels.
